Packing Procedures for computer server transportation
Non rack mounted servers traveling via 12’, 20’ or 53’ truck are palletized for transportation:
A single layer of 3/8 inch anti-static bubble wrap is placed in the bottom of the D-container.
The largest, heaviest servers will be placed on the bottom layer of bubble-wrap.
Each server will be wrapped on all sides with anti-static bubble wrap and nested in the D-container.
The corrugated cover is fastened to the D-container using plastic bands.
Each D-container is secured in the air-ride truck with straps.
Non rack mounted servers traveling via courier vehicle or cargo van*:
Servers will be wrapped with anti-static bubble wrap secured with moving tape.
Wrapped servers will be placed in 24″x36″x12″ corrugated box.
Non rack mounted servers traveling via commercial airlines.
Servers will be properly packed and/or crated by our partner crating company, either on site or at crating facility.
Racks and cabinets (uncrated) traveling via 12’, 20’ or 53’ truck:
We first secure all doors, and ensure there are no loose panels on the cabinet.
We wrap the entire cabinet in 3/8 in bubble wrap securing it with moving tape.
We wrap the entire cabinet in 72” x 80” moving blankets and secure blankets with moving tape.
We then shrink wrap the entire cabinet.
The cabinet is carefully rolled to the air-ride truck.
The cabinet is rolled into air-ride truck and triple strapped into truck using straps and E-track.
Racks and Cabinets that are being crated for transportation:
Cabinets will be properly packed and/or crated by our partner crating company, either on site or at crating facility.
Server packaging for transport via dedicated charter flights:
For smaller aircraft unable to facilitate pallets, method #2 (above) is used.
For larger aircraft capable of handling pallets, method #1 and/or #5 (above) is used.
*This method only available for 1U-4U servers.
